The second study day of the programme began with a visit to the State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan named after I. V. Savitsky.

Often described as a key cultural institution of Nukus, the museum offers an essential entry point into the artistic and historical context of the region. Its collection provides insight into the development of avant-garde practices alongside local narratives and traditions.

For the Aral School, this visit was part of establishing a shared visual and cultural reference. Engaging with the museum’s archives allows participants to situate their research within a broader historical framework and to better understand how artistic expression has evolved in dialogue with place.

Following the tour, participants attended a lecture by Oktyabr Dospanov, Head of the Archaeology Department at the State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan named after I. V. Savitsky, which further contextualised the museum’s collections within the region’s archaeological and cultural history.
