During Aral Assembly the Aral School announces its second edition, with Joseph Grima as Programme Director and a new focus on Climate and Landscape.
We are pleased to announce architect, curator and researcher Joseph Grima as Programme Director for the second edition of the Aral School. His engagement with cultural projects in Uzbekistan includes curating an exhibition for CCA Tashkent in 2021 and the Uzbekistan National Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2022. During his time in Nukus, Grima met with participants of the first cohort, mentors and local practitioners to discuss the experiences of the first year and help shape the direction of the new edition.
For its second year, the Aral School will focus on Climate and Landscape, examining the changing environments of the Aral region and the social, cultural and ecological relationships that shape them.
The second edition will continue the Aral School’s commitment to research and production as regenerative practices, connecting landscape, culture and heritage while creating opportunities for young people to develop new forms of knowledge and collective action.
