Gayane Umerova, Chairperson of the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation, attended the opening of the exhibition Empire of Light in Doha, which explores the history and culture of Afghanistan over more than 5,000 years.

The Chairperson of the Foundation congratulated the exhibition’s partners — Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and the Aga Khan Trust for Culture — on the occasion of the opening.

The exhibition presents Afghanistan as a cultural crossroads where, over centuries, civilisations, religions, and traditions have converged, shaping a unique regional heritage and underscoring the importance of its preservation today. A dedicated section focuses on the artistic flourishing of the Timurid period, featuring illustrated manuscripts and works of the book arts from the fifteenth century, reflecting the development of miniature painting, calligraphy, and the courtly culture of Herat during this era.
