In Doha, the Chairperson of the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation, Gayane Umerova, attended the opening of Art Basel Qatar 2026 — the inaugural edition of Art Basel’s new global fair. Bringing together 87 galleries from 31 countries and territories across 84 artist projects, the fair presented a wide spectrum of contemporary art voices. The event took place across M7 and the wider Msheireb Downtown Doha, under the conceptual framework Becoming.
Thanks to the strategic vision of Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums, Qatar is steadily establishing itself as an international cultural hub for the Gulf region. Art Basel Qatar introduces a new model of display built around solo presentations and site-specific works, encouraging a continuous dialogue between contemporary art and the urban environment.
