On 10 December 2025, the 34th session of the General Assembly of the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) opened in Rome. Uzbekistan, which became the 138th member state of the organisation in 2024, was warmly welcomed by the leadership of ICCROM and UNESCO.

Speakers highlighted Uzbekistan’s growing role in the field of cultural heritage preservation and the attention President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has given to international cooperation. Special praise was given to the successful organisation of the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand.

Otabek Gaipov, Secretary-General of the National Commission of Uzbekistan for UNESCO, emphasised that Uzbekistan’s accession to ICCROM is a significant step in strengthening the country’s capacity for the preservation and restoration of cultural heritage.
