Mohamed Benchellal in Tashkent

The CCA Artist Residencies is delighted to welcome Mohamed Benchellal, the renowned Dutch-Moroccan designer and winner of the Fashion Trust Arabia and Vogue Fashion Prize.

In Tashkent for two months, he is developing a new project that explores the intersection of fashion, culture and space inspired by Uzbekistan.

Mohamed Benchellal redefines fashion as a form of art. His sculptural and architectural creations have been worn by Royals, Hollywood icons, and fashion legends — from Madonna and Alicia Keys to Sharon Stone and Iris Apfel.

Since founding his brand Benchellal in 2015, he has been creating striking gowns from deadstock materials, focusing on sustainability, uniqueness, and the power of the female form.

Today, his work is exhibited in major museums around the world, including in Qatar, Hong Kong, and the Netherlands. His journey — from a small atelier in Amsterdam to the global fashion stage that continues to inspire.
